Chef's Plate - UNBOXING and Look Inside and Review

I love food. I love to cook , bake , eat: you name it . If it surrounds food I am all for it. I used to have some issues with food , so now I am happy with my ability to be able to eat with joy surrounding food. Though I am not a serious  accomplished foodie by no means, I do love food .

I actually came across Chef's Plate through a sponsored pop up on Facebook. I clicked of course seeing that they deliver all across Ontario and was intrigued with their title. Chef inspired dishes delivered right to your door , yes please .

The concept is quite amazing. Thanks to the Chef inspired meals by Executive Chef Jason Rosso, you can make restaurant style meals in your own home. They send you 97 % of everything you need , including the awesome step by step instructions ( the other 3 % is like salt and pepper , extra oil and like pots and pans etc. , stuff you would have at home ) ,to make your meals. The best part is that you can pick from their menu for the week out of 6 different meals.

But before I go any further I have to explain , What is Chef's Plate ???

Chef's Plate is a subscription service that brings Chef Inspired meals to your door . You are given 6 meals to choose from and you can choose 2 of the six for the weeks meals. You can choose for either 2 people or 4 people each having 2 meals . You choose the week before for the next week. There is a cut off date to get your meal by the next week.

You get everything you need to make the meal so GUYS what a way top impress a date .

  • Once they’re in the fridge, your meals will stay fresh for 4-5 days.
  • Using our detailed recipes cards and step-by-step instructions we’ll take you from zero to kitchen hero!

So on to my experience .
The 6 meals on the menu when I got to order were
Turkey/Pork Tenderloin
Coconut Shrimp Chowder
Beef Stroganoff
Green Eggs and Yam
Apple Quesadillas with Brie
Chicken Quarter with Red Rice

Due to my personal dietary needs there were only 3 dishes calling my name . Of course I had to pick 2 . So my first dish was a no brainer and that was the Chicken Quarter with Red Rice . The other 2 I was stuck between were Green Eggs and Ham and the Apple Quesadillas with Brie. I choose the Green Eggs and Yam . Mostly because of a homage to Dr. Suess . I did really want the Apple Quesadillas with Brie, but I have made that before so I went with the other .
Needless to say I was so excited to have this . My delivery came on Nov 17 .
Delivered by Fed Ex , right to my door. The most important thing is that the box is a serious cooler .
Packed with 2 awesome ice packs and the box itself is isolated. You don't need to be home for delivery for right away , the packs and "cooler" keep your food cold.

(I tried to make an awesome Un-boxing video . I had everything planned out right down to everything I wanted to say. Well this video was a fail , in a way . I ended up trying to do everything with one hand as I had to use my phone to tape it , had a toddler wanting to be my wonderful helper, and well my perfect notes were made into new crafts , thanks little man. Stuck it in anyway , unedited as I cant really edit it anyway and why not . )
Both meals are packed separately, in their own bags , labelled to boot , doesn't get any easier than that .

Of course the chicken packed separate for food safety reasons.
Both meals and everything you need to make your Chef inspired meals at home .
Step by step instructions on how to make your meals.
Green Eggs and Yam before I open and take a look to get ready to cook .
What you get :2 Eggs, 1 Asian Yam, 1/2 bunch of Collard Greens, 2 tbsp of Butter , 1 head Radicchio, 2 tbsp Champagne Vinegar , 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika, 1/4 cup Fried Chickpeas, 1 tsp Sugar (sugar was actually missing but no big deal as I had some )
Chicken Quarter with Red Rice before I take a look and get the ingredients ready to cook.

What you get : 2 Chicken Quarters , 1/2 cup Red Rice, 1/2 Bunch of Spinach , 6 Apricots, Dried, 2 tbsp Sherry Vinegar , 1 Orange, 1 Yellow Onion, 2 tbsp Silvered Almonds

Just love this, all ingredients perfectly portioned out to make your meals . No waste , you know exactly what you are doing , and just a great way to enjoy a restaurant meal made at home.  So this is actually a more cost effective way to enjoy a restaurant style meal ; with the accomplishment of making it at home. Plus if you are an avid restaurateur, then this may save your pocket book , even if just a little . (no gas, no tip, no any dinner extras if it is a date)

My dinner date was my mom . I really wanted her to experience this as she is a major part of my food inspiration from growing up watching her cook and being taught how to. My toddler of course didn't eat a thing , not that I was surprised at all . I cooked both meals for us to try .

I will have to say that trying to get this meal prepared was so much fun , I was so intrigued at everything you got, portioned out , and a perfect easy to read and manipulate recipe. My toddler of course added more minutes on to my cooking time but that was have the fun . I really wish he tried something , but toddler woes it is that stage .

Our final product ... We plated both together so that we could experience both parts of the meal .

I cant express enough how delish everything was . Well almost everything the Radicchio not so much . Very bitter and I would have made it in different way than described on the recipe . The fried Chick Peas had an awesome heat to it , as well as the Smoked Paprika .  I had not had an Asian Yam before and I will now only buy Asian Yams. It was so sweet and just perfect . I am going to make a pie out of it when I buy some more .   The collard greens baked with an egg , brilliant; I have found my new way to have eggs.
The recipes themselves were easy to follow . From everything you need portioned out for you , to the easy step by step recipe cards ; this is a perfect way to prepare an awe inspiring restaurant meal in your own home .
There was actually so much food , I had leftovers and so did my mom . My mom took home all the radicchio as having it the way it was in the recipe was a big no ; but she made an amazing dish with it and made it edible and cut down the bitter bite , 90 fold.

On Solid Ground Cover Reveal -K.L. Grayson

Today we’re revealing the cover of K.L. Grayson’s On Solid Ground! I am so excited to share this gorgeous new cover with you! On Solid Ground is a novella in the Touch of Fate series and will be releasing Janurary 5th!

    About On Solid Ground:

June 5, 2008 I made a mistake of epic proportions. Moving home was an easy choice because I knew that I had to make things right. I had hoped to win back Harley’s friendship, but I never imagined that I’d win her heart … or the heart of her son. Now that I have, I’m never letting them go. They’re my life, the reason I breathe. We’ve worked hard to get where we are, and we’re finally standing on solid ground.
    Or so I thought …

Tyson’s ex-fiancĂ© wasn’t supposed to move back to St. Louis … that wasn’t part of the plan. And she sure as hell wasn’t supposed to start working with him. I trust him—at least I think I do—but when secrets are being kept and things start to unravel, I’m left wondering if I made a mistake. I allowed myself to fall in love with the only man to ever break my heart.
And now I’m afraid he might break it again …

This is a Harley and Tyson Touch of Fate Novella and can be read after book #1 or book #2 but should not be read as a standalone.

    Read the series now!

    About K.L. Grayson:

K.L. Grayson resides in a small town outside of St. Louis, MO.  She is entertained daily by her extraordinary husband, who will forever inspire every good quality she writes in a man.  Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer.  She has a love for alpha-males, brownies, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings…and not particularly in that order.

Will he realize a life with Keely is something
he should hold onto at any cost?

Find out in All That’s Left to Hold Onto by Ella Fox!

    all that's left to hold.jpg

When Ronan Sharpe unexpectedly left Colorado for parts unknown, he took a piece of Keely Carmichael's heart with him.

After leaving his hellish roots behind him, Ronan found contentment when he started over. Thoughts of the past had been pushed down for so long; he hardly thought about it at all.

He intended to keep it that way.

When unexpected circumstances force Ronan to return to Colorado, the Keely he finds is no longer the adolescent girl he remembered. Torn between desire and fear, Ronan struggles with his feelings for Keely and his need to escape the town that scarred him so deeply years ago.

Letting go is all Ronan's ever known. Will he realize a life with Keely is something he should hold onto at any cost?

There were nasty looking bruises on his cheek and jaw, his lip was swollen and his knuckles were scraped and bloody.  The instant I got a good look at his face I knew something was horribly wrong.  It only went downhill from there.

My attempts to contain my panic weren’t working.  Choking back a sob I blubbered, “Why do you have to go?”

The anger was all but pouring off of him.  Not toward me—he’d never once been angry with me. I knew anger though, and it was more than obvious he was furious about something. A permanent grimace seemed to have set up camp on his face.  For him, it was highly unusual.  Even in the toughest of times, he kept his cool.

Suddenly, he wasn't calm at all.  He was angrier than I’d ever seen him.  It was obvious he’d been in a fight, but it didn’t change his status as the most attractive guy alive, in my opinion.

I saw his jaw clenching and unclenching which I figured meant he was trying to control himself.

“Because this piece of shit town is like a fucking cancer,” he spat.  “I’m so done with the crazy assholes around here. People like us aren’t normal—we’re the freaks for trying to be good people.”

I didn’t know how to argue with his words.  He wasn’t wrong—there was a lot wrong with many of the people in our town. Most of the crazy people were either my family members or his.  I knew it and so did he.  There wasn’t a response to erase the reality of the kind of people we dealt with.

    “Are you going alone?”

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he nodded stiffly. “Yes.”

    “Even though you live with—”

His hand shot up into a stop gesture to keep me from finishing the sentence.

“Don’t say her fucking name. If I never hear it again, it’ll be too soon. I don’t live with that crazy bitch anymore.”

I couldn’t stand her so it wasn’t like I was going to push. She was an evil troll. If he had to go, I was glad he wasn’t taking her with him.  It would’ve made me ill. She pretended to be sweetness and light when he was around but it was nothing but a charade.  She was terrible.  I was glad he wasn’t taking her, but the fact he wouldn’t say her name told me his leaving was somehow her responsibility. I hated her more than ever.

    “Where will you go?”

He gestured back over his shoulder toward the street with his thumb.

“Wherever my car takes me once I pull out,” he said.

I couldn’t imagine life without him, nor did I want to. Not only had he been my crush for as long as I could remember, he was the only person who ever really listened to me.

“Will you ever visit?” I asked hopefully.

He was shaking his head in the negative before I’d even fully finished asking the question. I knew he wouldn’t. The bone-deep hatred he had for everything about where we lived was stamped all over his face.  I wanted so badly to know what, exactly, had sent him over the edge, but when I asked, he’d refused to tell me.

It sucked being fourteen because he treated me like a kid.  My age said I was a child, but I was so different than any of my peers it wasn’t even funny.  Because of this, they teased me often, referring to me as Granny Carmichael.  I hated it.  It wasn’t as though I’d had a choice.  My childhood was over the moment my mother got sick.

His expression softened when he looked me over. “You need to get back inside before you get pneumonia.”

The frigid Colorado air wasn’t even making an impression on me until he pointed it out. I realized my tears were leaving cold trails on my face, but I couldn’t walk away. All I cared about was how much I didn’t want him to leave.

“I don’t care about the cold or getting pneumonia.  I don’t want you to go!” I cried anxiously.

He hugged me then, his strong arms wrapping around me to give comfort.  I hadn’t hugged him since I’d been much younger—probably five or six.  Those hugs had mostly involved me wrapping myself around one of his legs.  This was different. I wrapped my arms tight around him and cried against his chest, holding on for as long as he allowed me to.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he ended the embrace and stepped back. “I have to leave.”

Knowing my denial and resistance weren’t going to make any difference, I swiped at my tears as I nodded.

“I’ll miss you,” I said on a choked sob.  “Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll miss you too,” he replied softly.  “You’re one of the few good people here.”

My heart galloped in my chest. I loved him for saying what he did—but hated that it came at such a horrible price.  Losing him was unbearable.

He turned as if to leave, then stopped.  Spinning back my way, he stared at me intently for a few moments before he spoke again.

“You’re so much better than any of these people. Don’t ever let them change who you are. The world needs a lot more you and a lot less them. No matter what anyone tells you—you’re perfect.  Got it?”

I nodded as I wiped at the tears running unchecked down my face.

He hugged me again, very briefly. My heart skipped a few beats when he dropped a kiss on top of my head.

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute,” he murmured.

When he let go, he said nothing else.  He just turned and walked to his car.  As he went, the chill in the air suddenly took hold of me.  Hugging my arms around myself, I watched as he got into the car, turned it on and then pulled out of my driveway.  He looked at me one last time before putting his hand up in a goodbye gesture.  I did the same.  A few seconds passed before he put the car in drive then sped off into the night.

I stayed outside for two or three minutes, hoping against hope he would change his mind and come back.

    He didn’t.

Hours later when I got into bed, I prayed fate would bring him back one day.  I said the same prayer most nights for a long, long time. Eventually I had no choice but to accept reality.

Hell would freeze over before he returned.
