ABOUT THE BOOK

Oh Susannah: Things That Go Bump

Illustrated by Mateya Arkova
Publisher’s Synopsis: Susannah Maya Logan is not having a good day. She doesn’t want to go to her best friend, Lola’s sleepover. Susannah thinks the house is big and spooky, not to mention the ghost that is said to live there. Lola’s big brother, Kai, loves to tease Susannah with scary stories. Throughout her day, she sees people deal with things that scare them. Her sight-impaired friend, Macy, is terrified of unicorns, of all things. She sees a boy at a party who’s frightened of clowns. Her teacher is afraid of getting a cold. Susannah realizes everybody is scared of something. She wishes she was more like Lola, who is not afraid of anything, or so it seems. Susannah discovers people have different ideas of what is scary and what is not, and only they can determine the difference. Join Susannah as she learns to confront her fears and not let her imagination prevent her from having fun.

REVIEW
I have been lucky enough to have already reviewed for Carole before, and her series If You Were Me and Lived In .. books are fabulous. So I was excited to get to read Oh Susannah: Things That Go Bump. Especially since it hints on some supernatural so right up my alley and that of my son. (though I was fooled by the cover) . The book is a longer read and not a picture book , but only 10 small chapters. Of course we started out reading together and without pictures my little guy lost interest so mommy read it herself. Which was nice since I could read in peace and quiet and really give the book it's fair due.  Zach falls a little short of the intended age range for kids , 7-10. I find that perfect aged for this book. The book provides a lesson in a round about way , about the use of expression and how it doesn't always mean the literal. Very cute life lesson for Susannah and such a fun little story about a surprise for a young girl.
I love how it evoked some memories about sleep overs when I was little. So fun I would have been the brother Kai's character , scary mischeif.
Carole adds substance to her writings and I said before , these books are great for Homeschooling families as they contain teachable moments in the cutest of ways.
